South Woodham Ferrers

The u3a movement, founded in 1982, is a non-commercial national voluntary organisation which provides, through local u3as, life enhancing and life changing opportunities for people not in full-time employment. It does this within local u3as, giving its members the opportunity to develop interests, make new friends, and have fun. South Woodham Ferrers u3a was founded in 2005, is a registered Charity (1181261) and currently has in excess of 250 members.

Central to all u3as are activity groups which are formed around topics of interest and give members the opportunity to come together to learn for fun, to enjoy exploring new ideas, skills and activities. These usually meet once a month on a regular day and time, and might include, walking, wine tasting, gardening, singing, painting, almost anything that comes to mind and may be of interest to its members. Some of our activity groups are shown on the right.

Once a month, each u3a holds a meeting at which all members are invited. At the meeting there is the opportunity to chat to other members, find out about groups, and what activities/events they may have planned, and listen to a speaker.

Our monthly meeting is held on the first Wednesday of the month between 1.50pm and 4.00pm at Champions Manor Hall. The yearly membership fee for 2024 -2025 is £16 and membership is open to everyone who is not in full-time employment. This enables you to attend monthly meetings and join any of our activity groups.

Visitors are wellcome to attend one of our meetings for a fee of £1.50. If they decide to join the u3a on the day the visitors fee will be refunded.

South Woodham Ferrers is one of a large number of u3as in Essex with The Third Age Trust as our umbrella organisation. We are aslo part of the East of England u3a and a member of the Maldon and District u3a Cluster Group.
