The Eco Group is a fairly new group. We meet on the 4th Monday of the month at 2pm in different group members’ houses. It is a discussion group to find out about different environmental or climate change issues and see if there is anything we can do to educate the u3a members generally or the wider community within South Woodham Ferrers. Some of our topics during the year include Fashion and Sustainability, visiting an eco-friendly garden, hedgehog highways, the pros and cons of electric cars with a visit from a long-term owner of one and had a plant-based food tasting session.
Some of the planned topics for 2024 are:
- A talk by someone from the Town Council on place-based decarbonisation.
- Terracycle and difficult to recycle items.
- Recycling generally - talk maybe - particularly about plastics.
- Insulation - how well insulated are our homes and what can we do about it.
- Supermarket policy towards packaging, product - talk by one of our supermarkets.
- Great Big Green Week.
